I recently went camping at Big Meadows, and I am planning another camping trip with a group of friends to the Central District again very soon. I've done a lot of hiking in this area of the park, and find it to be the most compacted with very rewarding and popular hikes. I thought I'd make a map to provide a better visual of distance and layout of the central district of Shenandoah National Park to others. I've included waterfall hikes, and vista hikes, along with two areas for overnight lodging. Along with the details, I've included the Mile Posts where each trail starts, as well as where the car pull off overlooks are located. Below is the helpful map for friends I created.
This blog is dedicated to creating helpful traveling maps for friends. I love maps, traveling, and finding information on new areas. By creating maps for friends, this allows me to research areas I may or may not have been. Included in the maps are suggestions on restaurants, mileage, and other points of interest. My maps will include delightful info all looped into one map, that most books will not put all in one place. Feel free to print any below, and happy travels!

Mid-Atlantic Brewery Guide - December 2011
I have quite a few friends that enjoy microbrews. Since breweries have become destinations for beer enthusiasts, I decided to create this handy guide for the Mid-Atlantic area.

DC to Miami. Beach Road Trip - July 2011
I have a friend moving back to Miami this week, and he plans to hit some beaches along the way. I'm not sure of the exact beaches he plans to stop, so I included a bunch along the east coast. I also included where all the Waffle Houses are located on 95 in case he gets hungry at 4am.

Campgrounds from DC to Nags Head - July 2011
I have a friend going to Nags Head for a week, but can't get into the place they are staying until Sunday night. Rather than wait around all weekend, they decided they'd like to go futz around at a campground somewhere along the way Friday and Saturday. I created the campground guide below for them.

SNP Waterfall Guide - July 2011
The map below is a guide to all the featured waterfalls in Shenandoah National Park. Sometimes maps provide so much information, it becomes cluttered and difficult locating specific areas of interest. I wanted to create this map to only highlight the waterfalls and their location. I listed the basics for each waterfall at the bottom, and a few personal notes in the map.

Cedar Run - July 2011
I had a friend ask me if I knew of any good swimming holes close to DC. I replied, of course! and right away told her about a natural waterslide that I've hiked past on the Cedar Run Trail in Shenandoah. Below I drew out a map to guide her to the location of the waterslide. I also included distance, and elevations to give her a good idea of what to expect during the hike. I also made an attempt at drawing topography lines. This link shows what the hike/waterslide looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-n6OUk394 Her map below.
