DC to Miami. Beach Road Trip - July 2011

I have a friend moving back to Miami this week, and he plans to hit some beaches along the way. I'm not sure of the exact beaches he plans to stop, so I included a bunch along the east coast.   I also included where all the Waffle Houses are located on 95 in case he gets hungry at 4am.

Campgrounds from DC to Nags Head - July 2011

I have a friend going to Nags Head for a week, but can't get into the place they are staying until Sunday night.  Rather than wait around all weekend, they decided they'd like to go futz around at a campground somewhere along the way Friday and Saturday.  I created the campground guide below for them.

SNP Waterfall Guide - July 2011

The map below is a guide to all the featured waterfalls in Shenandoah National Park.  Sometimes maps provide so much information, it becomes cluttered and difficult locating specific areas of interest.  I wanted to create this map to only highlight the waterfalls and their location.  I listed the basics for each waterfall at the bottom, and a few personal notes in the map.

Baltimore - July 2011

I had a friend tell me she had her brother visiting, and planned to go to Baltimore for the day.  I was asked for a few suggestions, and so I made the following detailed map below.  Along with the points of interests, I also included admission costs for each

Cedar Run - July 2011

I had a friend ask me if I knew of any good swimming holes close to DC.  I replied, of course! and right away told her about a natural waterslide that I've hiked past on the Cedar Run Trail in Shenandoah.  Below I drew out a map to guide her to the location of the waterslide.  I also included distance, and elevations to give her a good idea of what to expect during the hike.  I also made an attempt at drawing topography lines.  This link shows what the hike/waterslide looks like:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-n6OUk394  Her map below.

Las Vegas - July 2011

I had a coworker last week travel to Las Vegas.  He mentioned he was planning a day excursion, and mentioned going to Death Valley.  The current temp in Death Valley for when he was planning on going was a high of 123 degrees.  I became concerned he may die, so I took it upon myself to provide a map of other possible destinations.  I figured maybe I could provide destinations with just a few digits lower in high temps, and give him a less likely chance of dieing.  Below is his map.

Acadia National Park July 2011

I have two friends visiting Acadia over 4th of July weekend/week.  Another friend suggested I make them a map for their trip.  The following map details everything from nice walks around a lake, to drives to a mountain vista, to lunch/brewery/teahouse/ice cream shops.  I found out today that a coworker of mine would also be going to Acadia for the 4th of July as well.  She'll also be taking the pocket map for her visit.  I've asked both to report back with their thoughts on the map, and recommendations on places they found that could be added to the map.

New Orleans - June 2011

I had a wonderful friend visiting New Orleans, and I took on the task of creating a map for her.  This is my first city map, and from the final result I can tell my city maps will only improve going forward.  I had trouble figuring out what scale to use for New Orleans to cover most areas, and still have the map close enough to detail streets.  It is an average guide, but left a bit too much to the imagination expanding off the page.

New Mexico / Arizona - May 2011

Flying into Phoenix with a New Mexico roadtrip in mind, I created the following handy map.  It is mostly National Park and National Monument oriented, with distances in between.  This won't be helpful with specific city exploration, but is very helpful for the outdoor enthusiast.  It includes a number of great destinations.

Southwest Roadtrip - June 2010

This is the original map that tapped my pleasure to make Maps For Friends.  In June 2010, my friend was getting married, and for the bachelor party we decided to go on a roadtrip.  Below I hand mapped out our trip, with great iconic detail of our destinations. I then mass emailed out my proud creation below to the bachelor party road trippers.
